Long story short (though about to get much longer), I've been having the time of my life and haven't wanted to take a break to write about it. You understand. "Most enchanting boat trip in southeast Asia" may be a stretch for the boat ride Battambang- Siem Reap, but I have nothing to compare it to. It was long. And hot. And longer. And hotter. Basically, you're moving the speed of a pro racing turtle through flooded wetlands toward the Tonle Sap with huge-ass diesel engine making tons of noise in 90+ degree heat, direct sunlight, and 100% humidity for eight hours. That's the bad news. The good news is that the boat is not just a backpacker tourist trap- it stops at every single one of these little floating villages to make deliveries and pick ups- it's a side of rural river village life in Cambodia you would never see otherwise, and that alone made it worth the discomfort. The best part of the trip for me was that it was a backpacker tourist trap, and I met some of the most amazing people on that boat who I would spend my time with while in Siem Reap. First are Lindsay and Paul- a Canadian couple from Alberta. Paul is an electrical engineer and retired pro triathlete (he competed on the Olympic team in Beijing) and Lindsay is about to finish up her school for physiotherapy ...
