Hearst Castle

Joined 20th June 1998. Hearst Castle, the mansion of William Randolph Hearst Newspapers houses built. It is located near San Simeon, California, on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Donated by the Hearst Corporation, the state of California in 1957, is now a State Historical Monument and a National Historic Landmark, open for public visits. Hearst Castle has 56 rooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres of gardens,Indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, a cinema, an airfield and the largest private zoo in the world. Zebras and other exotic animals still available on the site. Morgan, an accomplished engineer, has developed a gravity-based system of water supply from a nearby mountain. A highlight of the resort is the Neptune Pool, which has a broad view of the mountains, the sea and the main house. Invitations to Hearst Castle were highly coveted during its heyday in the 1920s and '30s a lot.The Hollywood and political elite often visited, usually flying into the estate's airfield or taking a private Hearst-owned train car from Los Angeles. Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, the Marx Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill were among Hearst's A-list guests.
